Wow - the new rules directly kill all the foreign registered motorcycles in Thailand that do now-and-then a visa run for the vehicle… All those motorcycles are now only worth for the useful parts they maybe have…

We from England and the two of us want to travel, on our UK registered motorcycles, from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia throw Thailand and Cambodia to Vietnam.

As I read the new rules for Thailand correct that is not possible anymore, or do I have it wrong?

Hello Sissies,

It’s true that the old way of applying for a temporary import permit at the border and ride unrestricted throughout Thailand is gone.

If you want to enter Thailand with two motorcycles that are registered in the United Kingdom, you need to apply for the Temporary Import Permit / papers around 30 days in advance (to be safe).

And probably the biggest obstetrical is the guide and escort vehicle (Thai-registered) that is needed for any vehicle that enters Thailand. From the Malaysian border to the Cambodian border is probably a 2 or 3 day ride, or about 1400 kilometers, a vehicle with a person that is registered as a Thai guide will cost you likely a small fortune…

So the trip throw Thailand is not impossible, but surely much more expensive.
