I have a Honda CBR500R and I need to change my sprockets and chain, and I was thinking to go for a rear 40 tooth sprocket to get a bit more top speed.

The standard CBR500R chain is a 520 with 112 links, do I have to change that if I go for a 40 tooth rear sprocket?

If you change the rear sprocket by 1 or 2 tooth you not have to change to a different size chain. The standard 112-link 520 chain will do fine, just adjust compensate by using the rear wheel adjusters.
