Honda MotoGP Road Legal Race Replica May Come
Last year Honda confirmed they are going to build a road legal motorcycle based on their MotoGP racer – the 999.5cc, V4, 230 horsepower Honda RCV12. It's more than idle chat as the motorcycle is now being tested.Honda president Takanobu Ito said the new MotoGP race replica would deliver the excitement the Honda VFR750 RC30 created back in the '80s. The new model will have more impact, though, essentially being the RCV1000R. 'Imagine an Open class MotoGP bike with lights and you're there,'' confirmed a Honda representative not so long ago. Honda build three prototypes of the MotoGP race replica with testing scheduled for May in Japan.
The Honda MotoGP race replica would surely not be a budget model, 'currently the production costs would be around 7.950.000 THB – multiply that by 2.5 for the sale price, and that's an expensive motorcycle. Getting some parts produced in around the world would save cost, and could get production down to 4.240.000 THB, but we need to save much more without compromising the product.' according to the Honda representative.
Let's hope they find a way. Just because the Honda MotoGP race replica is at the testing stage, doesn't mean its launch is guaranteed – if the balance of performance and cost isn't right, or someone doesn't like the motorcycle, Honda may still pull the plug.
