BMW 300cc Entry-Level Small-Bike Spied

It seems that the partnership of TVS Motorcycles and BMW start too pay off. Here a spy photo of a 300cc single-cylinder BMW motorcycle, the picture offer the first glimpse of the near-complete, entry-level BMW. The tail light and plate hanger have been borrowed from the BMW R NineT. There's also a round plinth, located between the tank and the side panel, which will surely hold the familiar blue-and-white BMW logo when the production model makes its debut. The styling is in line with the current new BMW motorcycles.

The final headlight shape visible in the nose panel despite having a stop-gap lamp bolted to it, is similar to the new 2015 BMW F800R's design, as is the little aerodynamic shroud protecting the instruments above it. The front mudguard is also a typical-BMW shape, as are the stylized wheel spokes.

Most exciting is the engine, which appears to be entirely new. It's a single-cylinder, believed to be round 300cc.
There's a good chance BMW will produce versions in both 250 and 300cc to suit different global markets. It's clearly liquid-cooled and it's sure to be a four-valve, DOHC design. Most intriguing is the lack of a visible exhaust downpipe at the front of the engine.

This could suggest it's either neatly tucked away or BMW has opted for a reverse-cylinder design, with the intake at the front and the exhaust at the back.

The reverse-cylinder design I currently only used on a small amount of motorcycles, including the Honda Moo3 race motorcycle and the 2015 Yamaha YZ250F and YZ450F motocross bikes.

The small displacement BMW motorcycle also doesn't follow the current practice of fitting a catalytic converter beneath the engine and a small end-can. Instead, there's a bulky silencer, which surely incorporates the catalytic converter .

The chassis construction appears to be tubular steel, in-keeping with the low-cost approach, although the swingarm looks like made from aluminum-alloy. The motorcycle's also fitted with upside-down front forks and very likely will be equipped with ABS, hinting that while the motorcycle will be an entry-level model, it won't be the cheapest.

The final version of the small-engine BMW is likely to have bodywork around the rear seat, and it's sure to have a belly pan to protect the vulnerable-looking oil filter. It's expected that all work to be finished in time for an official launch late this year. You can visit our forum to see the pictures larger or give your comments 300cc Entry-Level BMW motorcycle.
