The Alpinestars S-MX 1 Shoe - Perfect Motorcycle Shoes
There are times you don't want to wear cumbersome motorcycle boots but still want decent ankle protection. Despite looking a bit space age the Alpinestars S-MX 1 Shoe doesn't look too 'far out' when worn under a pair of jeans. I like the idea of motorcycle shoes.The laces are hidden behind a flap of leather and secured with Velcro and a buckle, which means you can leave the laces done up loosely then slip your foot in and out and use the buckle to firmly secure the shoe. It speeds up getting the Alpinestars S-MX 1 shoe on and off, which is very helpful in Thailand, although it's still a bit fiddly.
For general walking around duties the Alpinestars S-MX 1 shoe is comfortable and doesn't feel bulky, while offering a decent level of feel and appearing to give good protection around the ankle area when riding. The only negative thing I have is that the sole can get a bit slippery on metal pegs when it rains.
The price puts them just below the cost of a decent pair of new motorcycle boots, but for Thai weather riding I prefer to wear the Alpinestar S-MX 1 shoe over a boot every time. The Alpinestar motorcycle shoes are available in all-black and black with red, I personally prefer the all black, as it will look more like regular shoes.
