2016 Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin - Dual Clutch Adventure Bike

The new 2016 Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin aims to challenge BMW, KTM, Triumph, Yamaha and Suzuki for off-road supremacy with a specification sheet that looks promising.

Power comes from a all-new 998cc parallel twin with a 270º phased crankshaft. According to Honda, the new CRF1000L engine is designed to be compact and to keep the motorcycle's center of gravity low.

The Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin also sports long travel Showa suspension, wire spoke wheels (21-inch front and 18-inch rear), traction control, powerful brakes, and plenty more features one expects to find on modern adventure bikes. Its most distinguishing feature, though, may be its DCT (dual clutch transmission), the first to be offered on a dual sport/adventure motorcycle.
Honda says that the DCT's design was targeted for the combination of dirt and street, which the Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin is likely to see. The transmission will be able to partially disengage the clutch at low speeds.

Honda also says that when the CRF1000L Africa Twin is on an incline or decline the gearbox will hold lower gears longer to aid power or engine braking. Of course, if dual clutch isn't a rider's think, the Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin will hopeful also come to Thailand with a traditional manual six-speed gearbox.
