The 2012 Honda PCX150i - The New Honda 150cc PCX Scooter
Honda Thailand entered a new territory when they introduced the Honda PCX 125i scooter in the Thai market. The Honda PCX 125i was the first Honda 125cc scooter for some time. It was based on a completely new design, and it was clear that Honda was targeting the daily city commuters. The first Honda PCX was powered by a newly designed 125cc PGM-Fi (fuel injection) engine. Honda Thailand. However, it failed to live up to the expected performance in the market and thus could not make an real impact as Honda had hoped. Taking lessons from the PCX 125i's shortcomings, Honda Thailand made the essential improvements and launched an upgraded variant of the scooter, called Honda PCX150i.The Honda PCX150i has a plain design, while the colors are different from the previous model the whole scooter is almost identical to the original PCX. However, it now gets a new eSP (Enhanced Smart Power) engine. The analogue information display has simple and easy to read layout consisting of a speedometer, and digital section for odometer and fuel gauge. Turn indicators find space on the tops sides of the centered speedometer on the left side of the dash you find the idle-stop and high beam indicators.
The Honda PCX150i comes equipped with 14” 5-spoke cast aluminum wheels, a front 220 mm hydraulic disc brake, with 3-piston caliper, and at the rear a 130 mm leading / trailing drum brake both combined. The bodywork is from excellent quality plastic and is placed in the same way as the previous Honda PCX. The front indicators lights are integrated into the headlight unit, which makes it sometimes difficult for oncoming traffic to see your indicator lights.The Honda PCX150i is powered by a eSP, 150cc, 4-stroke, 2-valve SOHC, single cylinder, with built-in liquid cooling engine. The transmission is by Honda patterned V-matic transmission. On performance front, the Honda PCX150i showed notable improvements in figures, although the power and torque has not increased that much. The Honda PCX150i accelerates much faster and keeps the powerband much longer, speeds of over 120km/h are reported as easily reachable. The top speed recorded during our test run was 110km/h; already an improvement of a few kilometers over the PCX125. To our idea the best improvement is the time it takes to get to the top speed, and, as we borrowed the Honda PCX150i we didn't pushed it to its limit.
The Honda PCX150i wide seat providers comfort as it did on the previous model. The most crucial part of the Honda PCX scooter is the suspension. The telescopic front forks and the rear shock-absorb are like on the original PCX of good quality and the whole scoot handles sublimely. The Honda PCX150i is a powerful city commuter with a fitting character.
